Nathan Beeler is a music educator, conductor and performer from Halifax, Nova Scotia. He is currently the department head of the Halifax All City Music Program. He conducts the Halifax City Schools Orchestra, Halifax All-City Wind Ensemble and the Halifax All-City Senior Jazz Ensemble. Nathan has been resident conductor for several Halifax ensembles including The Scotia Brass and the Dalhousie University Wind Ensemble and has guest conducted both Nova Sinfonia and the Chebucto Symphony Orchestra.
As a conductor Nathan has worked with such performers as Jens Lindeman, Dinuk Wijeratne, Kinan Azmeh and D’Arcy Gray. He has also performed collaborative projects with the likes of world renowned DJ Skratch Bastid. Nathan has performed as a Tuba player with the Symphony Nova Scotia Brass, as well as Scotia Brass and the Acadia Brass Quintet. Nathan is also a guitar/mandolin player and has performed at festivals throughout Canada.
Nathan holds an undergraduate degree in music education from Acadia University, and a Master’s degree in conducting from the University of Manitoba. While in Manitoba, he studied conducting with Earl Stafford, former music director of Canada’s Royal Winnipeg Ballet. In 2010, Nathan was a recipient of the Prime Minister's Award for Teaching Excellence, one of Canada’s highest awards for educators.
